Ramie Kasuri Vol.1

Among ANATOMICA's extensive lineup, there is one special product that is only produced in Kyoto.

This is a project to create ANATOMICA products using traditional Japanese fabrics.

When this project was launched in Kyoto, we received cooperation from Mr. Usami of "A LITTLE PLACE."

In this column, we interviewed Mr. Usami about the background of the project and his discussions with Mr. Pierre.

Mr. Usami has been involved in buying for 30 years as a buyer for a certain select shop, based in Paris.
It was actually Mr. Usami who first brought ANATOMICA to Japan.

Currently, Mr. Usami and Mr. Narui, a Kyoto gardener, have opened a gallery shop called "A LITTLE PLACE," where they handle various products.

Mr. Usami also runs his own brand, "[KI] SIECLE."

All the fabrics for the clothes made by Mr. Usami are old Japanese kimono fabrics.
These fabrics are natural materials called ramie ikat, made 100 years ago.

After moving to Kyoto, whenever he visited flea markets and such, the fabrics he naturally picked up were these ramie fabrics, he said.

Mr. Usami, captivated by old Japanese kimono fabrics, purchased many ramie fabrics.

It started with the desire to show "Japan's beautiful craftsmanship" to his friends in Paris!

One day, Mr. Pierre became interested in the clothes made by Mr. Usami and had dinner at Balata in Paris.

He resonated with traditional Japanese fabrics and Mr. Usami's craftsmanship, leading to a discussion about developing a ramie ikat collection at ANATOMICA PARIS.

The following year,
ANATOMICA KYOTO opened.

Through Mr. Pierre's introduction, it became possible to produce products using ramie fabric specifically in Kyoto.

 

ANATOMICA's "FRENCH GARMENTS," born from a focus on traditional and beautiful French workwear,

and "ramie ikat," a 100-year-old kimono fabric created by Japan's beautiful craftsmanship.

I believe it has become a special product where France and Japan resonate with each other.

This time, we used 100-year-old ramie ikat fabric to create "ARTHUR."
