A year until ANATOMICA KYOTO's birth

One year ago, in the spring of 2024,

we were in the midst of preparations for the opening of ANATOMICA KYOTO.

We began earnestly searching for a property in Kyoto around 2022. It was difficult to find a property that met our criteria, but by chance, we found our ideal machiya on Aneyakoji-dori.
It was a 100-year-old Kyoto machiya located in Tsugaru-cho along Aneyakoji-dori.

I still remember shedding tears when the property contract was finalized.

From there, the path to opening was not easy.

ANATOMICA KYOTO before renovation

Originally two machiya houses, they had been connected and renovated into a single machiya. Since it had been used as a residence, we had to start by stripping it down to its bare structure.

Interior design began with Pierre from ANATOMICA PARIS, Yamauchi, and Mr. Kodama from mangekyo.

In March 2024, Pierre came from Paris to Kyoto, and discussions about the interior plan began.

The three of them developed the interior and exterior designs based on the concept of expressing the ANATOMICA world while preserving the historical essence of the Kyoto machiya.

Just like the interior of ANATOMICA PARIS, Mr. Pierre Fournier is meticulous about every detail.

The interior of the Kyoto store also involved thorough attention to fine details in its finishing.

However, the interior plan underwent many changes, causing delays beyond the scheduled opening date...

Even minute details, such as the plaster walls, the persimmon-tannin-dyed pillars and ceilings, the floor materials and colors, the staircase location, and fixture materials, proved challenging.

It was far from straightforward, and we decided to re-discuss the interior plan in Paris.

The fusion of the ANATOMICA world and the Kyoto machiya.
I once again realized the significance and difficulty of completing a single store.

Step by step, the current appearance of ANATOMICA KYOTO gradually began to take shape...
