憧れのHOUND'S TOOTH

My dream HOUND'S TOOTH

Last year, during my business trip to Paris, there was something I really wanted to ask Pierre about.

It all started in the spring of 2023. It was a jacket Pierre was wearing when he came to Kyoto for a meeting about the interior design of ANATOMICA KYOTO.

A "HOUND'S TOOTH" jacket.

Its presence stayed in my mind ever since.

Actually, this jacket was also worn during the ANATOMICA SAPPORO anniversary in 2022, and it's a memorable piece that I bought myself back then. It was a model also favored by owner Yamauchi and the Sapporo members at the time.

I wanted to make FRENCH GARMENTS with this material.

With that in mind, I decided to tell Pierre directly in Paris.

After arriving at ANATOMICA PARIS, we had a meeting about the Spring/Summer 2026 orders. I thought this was the perfect timing, so I asked if we could produce FRENCH GARMENTS using the "HOUND'S TOOTH" fabric that "Yamauchi also wears."

However, Pierre's reply was, "I really like that fabric, but I don't think there's any left."

Was it discontinued after all? Just as I was about to give up, Charles picked up a fabric swatch and searched for stock.

The result was— "We have a small amount, so we can make a limited number."

And that's how this project came to be.

This "HOUND'S TOOTH" fabric is from BEHAN, a long-established Irish linen manufacturer.

Originally, it's a fabric used for bed sheets and covers, so if you look closely, you can see that quite thick linen yarns are carefully twisted, resulting in a thick, vintage-like fabric.

The reason I wanted to use this fabric was not just for the pattern, but also because you can feel the splendor of good old European linen.

The Irish linen industry was once an important foundation that supported the British military's demand.

Linen was widely used for soldiers' shirts, bed linen, and medical purposes due to its high strength, durability even when wet, and hygiene.

Because of these characteristics, it was positioned as a practical material suitable for harsh environments.

The slight unevenness and roughness seen in this fabric are traces of it being a material for use, unlike modern uniformity.

On the other hand, the "HOUND'S TOOTH" pattern originates from Scottish country wear.

It originally developed alongside wool materials, and because it doesn't show dirt easily and is highly durable, it has been used for clothing that is subjected to daily heavy use.

"HOUND'S TOOTH" and "BEHAN LINEN" are inherently in the same context.

What we emphasized was "necessity for purpose."

We also valued the background of "in what environment and for what purpose it was used."

With this fabric, which also aligns with the background of ANATOMICA's FRENCH GARMENTS, we produced four models: "DOLMAN, 1841, SAGAN VEST, and ARTHUR."

I hope you can feel the background and philosophy of craftsmanship that ANATOMICA has cherished for 30 years through the limited-edition products we produced for the "Kyoto and Sapporo stores" this time.
