手放せなくなった帽子〜MARIPOSA HAT

Can't let go of my Mariposa Hat

Hats, such as newsboy caps and fedoras, are essential to the ANATOMICA style. I, too, have been influenced by Mr. Pierre and old movies, making newsboy caps and fedoras indispensable to my own style.

Hats were once a necessity for going out.

They started as tools to protect oneself from the sun, rain, and wind, and eventually evolved to indicate a person's status, occupation, and class.

Especially in Britain, hats were society itself. Top hats and bowler hats were not merely decorative; they were "rules" that clearly indicated which social class a person belonged to.

In America, on the other hand, the practical aspect was stronger, and hats were an indispensable part of one's appearance even in urban areas.

However, in the 20th century, this premise largely collapsed.

The spread of automobiles.

The time spent outdoors decreased, and people gained the space "inside a car," protected from wind and rain.

Furthermore, the low roof of cars physically transformed the hat itself into an obstruction.

What was once "necessary" gradually changed into "something that could be done without."

Then, after the war, with changes in social structure and values, hats disappeared from daily life.

From necessity to choice.

I don't believe this change diminished the value of hats. Rather, it could be said to have strengthened their meaning.

My interpretation is that the choice to wear a hat expresses a desire to cherish good old traditions and the style of that era. Though, to be honest, it's simply because I like the style of that time... (laughs)

ANATOMICA's French garments also value traditional French workwear. Clothing and hats share the same underlying background.

While regularly wearing newsboy caps and fedoras, I encountered a hat that truly impressed me.

"MARIPOSA HAT"

I believe it's still fresh in your memory, as we held an order event at ANATOMICA KYOTO last year.

Since I placed my order, I've been wearing it almost every day. It's become so indispensable that I can't go out without my MARIPOSA HAT anymore.

Why am I so drawn to the MARIPOSA HAT?

To be continued.
